Original Hopi Kachina Doll... Carved by award winning Hopi carver, Eli Taylor. Eli carves both action katchinas and the "old style" flat kachinas. There is special folk lore that is told by the Hopis that gives the story of each of the kachina spirits represented by the dolls. Eli just sold one of his action kachinas to a collector for about $6,000. Obviously, it was much more elaborate & expensive than the one we will have for auction. His village, Old Oraibi, (which sits east of the Grand Canyon on third mesa near Tuba City, AZ), is reportedly the oldest continually inhabited village in North America. Ceremonial dances are still performed at the village plaza by tribal members representing the various kachina spirits.
