THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF CHAIN SAW OPERATION
|
|
- Never go into the woods to cut alone. Take a responsible person with you.
- Never fell trees in high winds.
- Never operate a saw when under the influence of drugs or alcohol or when fatigued.
- Never operate a chain saw with only one hand.
- Never attempt cutting tasks beyond your experience. Save those for the professional.
- Always know where your bar tip is.
- Always keep your left thumb wrapped under the front handle.
- Always keep children and pets away from the work area.
- Always keep the chain sharp and maintain the proper depth gauge setting.
- Always wear proper clothing: especially a helmet with ear and eye protection, protective pants or chaps, gloves, and steel toed, cut resistant chain saw boots. This is the cheapest insurance there is.

START YOUR ENGINES SAFELY
|
|
- Be sure you know how to operate the equipment. Know the safety features, like shields and kill switches, and how to operate them. Do not remove or disconnect them.
- Handle gasoline carefully. Fill when the engine is cold. Never light a match or smoke when around gasoline.
- Clean up the area before you start. Remove trash, twigs, toys or rocks that could fly up and hit you.
- Operate only where you have firm footing.
- With a mower, never mow wet grass. You can slip and your mower is likely to clog. With a riding mower, never carry passengers or jump off moving equipment.
- After using your equipment, check each time for loose bolts, missing guards, clumps of grass/leaves, or excessive grease.

PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE is your best bet for prolonging the life of your power equipment. Dirty and unlubricated equipment will cause wear at critical points, not do the job intended, and may present a safety hazard. Planned and continuous maintenance will keep your equipment operating.
